You know what happened to people who didn't believe Cassandra.' In it our lead tells his older brother that his former girlfriend (Cassandra) says she is not hooked on drugs: In particular I found one section of dialogue to be a gem. I liked the interactions with the father and the fact that our lead didn't understand the more educated conversations. I found aspects that I truly appreciated.

I will perhaps read The Outsider, or perhaps The Outsider maybe even The Outsider but I will likely not read The Outsiders. I have no intention of reading The Outsiders. I read this because a friend of mine started a book club in real life (through skype though as too many people still cannot meet up), and by all the gods I will encourage such a thing and agreed to participate prior to even knowing the book. However, it's different from the two previous books because they both featured teenagers who were more intelligent and sensitive than their peers and who were wiser by the end of the book. Hinton's third novel, Rumble Fish (1975), is similar to her first two novels, The Outsiders and That Was Then, This Is Now, in that it stars a troubled teenager from a precarious background and is told from a young man's point of view.
